Creative Moments exhibition is open for business

On now, at the Shoalhaven City Arts Centre, until 19 October.

It is also international spinning & weaving week, so the girls are demonstrating on the wheel, and there is a scarf on a loom as part of the exhibition as an interactive display.

Creative Moments 2013 approaches

It is almost that time of year again for the Creative Moments Exhibition.

Members of the Shoalhaven Woodcraft Society, Nowra Spinners & Weavers & Shoalhaven Potters combine their artistic efforts into one momentous exhibition.

Come one, come all.

More Photos from our World Wide Knit in public day

Here are some more photos from our WWKiP day :) including Marcia and Jane spinning, Joel the apprentice carpenter from Sanctuary Point (illustrating that what Grandma teaches you stays with you - good lad), Clair in instructor mode and the girls from Wernick Craft Cottage.

The girls from Wernick Craft Cottage

A momentary break for coffee

Joel the apprentice carpenter from Sanctuary Point - making his Grandma proud - good on you lad, we were happy to meet you

Everyone was intrigued by Joel's skill with the needles

Everyone was interested in something - this was the whole point of getting out there and knitting and spinning in public when it comes down to it. Fantastic work everyone and thanks to all those who stopped to chat and those who had a knit or crochet lesson - see you the same time next year.

A big day out

We had a great day out yesterday in Junction Court, seeing old friends, meeting new friends, generally having fun ...more to come tomorrow as well ...

Newspaper articles aplenty

A bit of publicity was achieved prior to Saturday's knit in at Junction Court, great effort girls

Kerry Sutherland made covergirl on the Nowra News...

... and also in Wednesday's South Coast Register, the two Kerry's, Clair, Libby, President Jane and a passer by made the Community Scene section.

Counting the Stitches... two, three, four, five

Well, it was World Knitting Day on Saturday 8 June, and World Wide Knit in Public Week activities are on the needles all around the globe. There are over 617 registered Knit in Public participants including us here in Nowra.

We hope that the low pressure system exhausts itself by Friday so that we can have a spectacular sunny day (or at least a moderate and no rain day) on Saturday for our gathering at Junction Court.

Hope to see many people there, with yarn on their needles and a big dose of community spirit.

Showground Cottge News

Nowra Men's Shed received their $60,000 community building partnership grant last week and the news made the South Coast Register.

Nowra Spinners & Weavers rated a mention in the article too. We are looking to relocate from the CWA Rooms to the former Nowra Showground Caretakers Cottage for our meetings and workshops sometime this year.

Our Community Group

Welcome to the Nowra Spinners and Weavers blog

Here we will endeavour to provide information on the activities of Nowra Spinners and Weavers Inc.

This is a community group of spinners, weavers, knitters, crocheters and felting enthusiasts who aim to promote these arts through exhibition and sales and community works.

Nowra Spinners and Weavers join with the Shoalhaven Woodcraft Society and the Shoalhaven Potters each year for an exhibition of works from the three groups. This year's Creative Moments exhibition (and sales) is on as usual at the Shoalhaven City Arts Centre, from Friday 4 - Wednesday 23 October, 2013.

Creative Moments 2012 opening night

In coming weeks members of our group will be out knitting in public as part of activities of World Wide Knit in Public Week (8 - 16 June 2013). Our gathering in Nowra will be held at Junction Court - at the intersections of Junction & Kinghorne Streets, in the centre of the CBD. Come along between 9.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday 15 June 2013 to raise us to the challenge of fleece to garment - can we spin up yarn and knit furiously to create a beanie or tea cosy on the day?

Nowra Spinners and Weavers meet from 10am until 2pm on the first and third Saturday of each month at the CWA rooms off Berry Street in the Nowra CBD. 2013/14 Membership is now open to any persons interested in learning to spin, weave, knit, crochet or felt as a start.

We would love to see you, so feel free to come along to meet us.

Check out our Facebook page too if you have time - NowraSpinnersWeaversInc
